What has the Alabama program looked like in recent history ?. Only one was successful after they were fired (Gottfried). And they all have been fired.

FYI Sean Miller at Arizona makes 2.3 million a year. If you want to pay someone 5 million, you offer it to guys like that.
The difference is Arizona would try to match it

Because Sean Miller is worth 5 million. The Koch brothers would let Marshall walk from WSU for 5 million because Marshall is not worth 5 mil.

Who gives a shite how much we pay a coach? It's not like that money is coming out of your or any fans pocket.

They would let him walk for 5M because they don't care enough about basketball to get in a bidding war

On further consideration $5 mil might be generous but I think it will take at least $4 to get him.

Seems to me (correct me if I'm wrong), that when Bama was about to hire Saban we heard this same kind of API butthurt.
Now, nobody knows for sure which way the coaching search is going to go, but rest assured, Alabama can and will get the best they can get. Why, because we can.

I think some UA fans have an unreasonably hard boner for Marshall. I like him as a coach, but $5M is absurd.
Kansas lost 9 games this year. Using Robin's metric, the 9 coaches that guided their teams to those wins deserve $5m a year too.
It's not Marshall, its any top notch coach that Alabama wants to convince to come here instead of a traditional powerhouse. There is a risk inherent in that choice and they will want to be compensated for it. Maybe Im underrating the Alabama program but it would seem that if we want to act like a top program the first thing you do it get a quality coach and ay him accordingly.
Keep in mind the next coach I hire will be my first so I know very little about which I write.

quote:Recent history? So... we're narrowing it down to just Hobbs and Gottfried? You're claiming that Gottfried has been successful since we fired him. Hobbs took a year off and then was an assistant at UK for 7 years, 5 of those years as Assistant Head Coach. Then was a scout for the bobcats and was that Japanese head coach for a short time.
