I've had an active clearance since 2000 and a TS since 2007. Every time I had to fill out an SF86, I had to fill out a section detailing ANY FOREIGN ASSOCIATIONS. That damn form is nearly 60 pages long and you have to detail your entire life over the last 10 years to even get a reinvestigation.
They go over your entire history, including social media, finances and employment and require a reference for every single category.
Also, there's nothing simple about a DUI on base. Unlike off base, you get a DUI on base and your clearance is the least of your concerns.

The problem comes if you don't tell the full truth.
Brennan was always upfront.

Associating with a Marxist group qualifies as "associating with a group advocating sedition and the overthrow of the U.S. Government" and should have been an immediate disqualifier.

That is not all the way true.
Planning and taking part is different plus not all Marxist groups support the violent overthrow of the US government.
Some believe in the Democratic process.
