Coaches would go to places like Arizona because of the golf weather.
Lute Olson left Iowa to go to Arizona just a few years before that. The Arizona team he took over had gone 3-23 the year before he got there and had had only a handful of NCAA tourney bids.
It was crazy to leave a program like he had at Iowa to go out there. But he quickly built it up to being as good as and then better than Iowa.
Frieder was thinking the same thing could be done at ASU.
