I think he was talking about SEC teams.

Why's that funny to you? I think it's a nice win. BTW, I would categorize wins against Michigan, Ole Miss, and Arky as "nice wins".

Solid post OP.
For the record, I predict another sloppy performance from LSU on Saturday. We just aren't playing disciplined football. I hope that's a case of playing down to our competition, but I'm just not sure. If Florida can execute, I've seen nothing to lead me to believe that we can hang with them. Driskell is legit, he's surrounded by athletes. I hope Towson is our wake up call, but then again I hoped Auburn would be our wake up call.
I'm glad it's a day game. I hope our performance on the field starts reflecting the sheer volume of talent on the sidelines. But if I was putting money on this game, I'd have to go with UF.
Still, Geaux Tigers.

Not surprisingly considering scheduling. UGA usually plays SC like the 2nd game of the season. This season we don't meet until week 6. UT looks improved but have lost 2 tough games so far. Florida has 2 impressive road wins including the one in Knoxville so they probably should be considered the team to be in the East.
We will know a lot more after this weekend. If Florida and SC both win at home, then it sets up the SC/Florida game as the possible East champ and the Bama/MSU game becomes huge in the West. If Florida and SC both lose at home then it make UGA the team to beat in the East and sets up and Bama/LSU rematch in the West.

That's the deal right there. If you're a conspiracy theorist (and like I said in the OP), it's almost as if the league office planned a flat September, with things heating up in October. I mean to some degree they always do, but I literally have no clue who's the best out of about 5 teams right now. By now, it seems we usually know more.
