Take LSU. Lost handily to Arkansas and played an aTm squad Arkansas also beat. The fact that the aTm win propels LSU to a better record than Arkansas is irrelevant to which team is better. Arkansas running the ball down LSU's throat clearly showed Arkansas was the superior team, regardless what any poll says.
Polls are political creatures who often makes questionable decisions. The voters may, and do, cast ballots with an agenda in mind. Football is the only major college sport where they rather vote to decide the best team as opposed to actually playing for it.

I do have to say that Arkansas is home to the greatest anglers, architects, steel workers, and advertisers the internet has ever known. We can design, construct, and market anything we want. Business is good.
