Auburn finished pretty badly that season.

Nope

Auburn didn't do it in consecutive games. They beat La. Monroe 42-14 between Georgia and Alabama.

By going 2-1 against top 2 teams and 2-0 against #1 teams to finish the regular season? I guess if it makes you feel better.

Auburn finished 0-2. While their two biggest rivals played each other in the National Championship Game.

Not technically but a 4 Seed that beats the 1 Seed in the Semifinal then wins the championship should count.
