Back in my day, typically Colonel Reb was awarded to the guy most likely to come out of the closet after graduation, since usually the straight cool dude always lost to the obvious closet homosexual who had a ton of girlfriends around him doing his entire campaign.

The first paragraph was mocking the logic of the ASB. It was intended to be dumb as frick. The second paragraph is pretty accurate from my experience as a student at Ole Miss from 2008-2012. I saw the administration manipulate the students into voting "yes" for a mascot. Most students voted yes because they thought the "election" would be an opportunity to bring the colonel back. The administration also blamed the students for the administration's decision to end one of the greatest songs performed by any college band in the nation. The band could have easily modified FDWL to eliminate the portion where a select group of students yelled that stupid phrase. Sorry if standing up to injustice makes me appear "dumb as frick" on an anonymous message board. But at least I have a spine you condescending coward.

That was our fault. Douchebag commentators were commenting on us saying "TSWRA" and calling us racists. If the students would stop saying it at the god damn Library, we'd get another chance with it.

the DM sucks... the few people I know who read it only do so for the sports section. I know it recieves national awards, but it seems to have really dropped off the past two years.
Also, both the students and the Alumni are to blame for TSWRA... If the stuedents had stopped, then the alumni would have stopped and it wouldn't have gotten baned, but it wasn't just the students yelling it. It is unfair to blame just the students or just the administration in this situation.

I agree.....sort of.
I can tell you from on the field, there is no doubt it came heavily from the South End zone.
but OMLandshark is correct that if people would quit yelling it every week at The Library, maybe we'd have a shot at getting the real FDWL back.
also....too many people trash the DM because it isn't the New York Times. Even with all of the national recognition it receives....it's still a student run newspaper and should be treated as such. I'll pick up a USAToday if I'm in an airport but I do with it exactly what you say people do with the DM.....just read the sports section. Same with The Daily Journal out of Tupelo. People skipping straight to the sports section isn't anything new.

I worked at the DM for over a year and there was always someone in the meeting that tried to bring up something to do with racial issues or something dealing with homophobia. I'm glad I don't work there anymore.
ETA: When Jacob Batte was the editor for the news section, it was really good. Since he left the people they have doing don't have any clue how to choose stories or deal with their reporters.
