Pretty good story about his deafness and hearing his first whistle this year.

Can't imagine the emotions of hearing a whistle for the first time.
Confusion, excitement, elation
I got a little emotional myself.
Great story from the DM

Guy always has a smile on his face. Good story.

Saw a video on Worldstar of a kid with new hearing aids hearing for the first time. That kids eyes were lighting up hearing for the first time. Amazing the things we take for granted.

Hopefully the OM fans posting shite about him being an idiot when he committed to State and the State fans doing the same when he flipped, feel like real dicks right now.

Saw this earlier. I do wonder if the people in George Hall were the ones that did his fitting or if it was an outside group. We've got a great Speech and Audiology program.

I couldn't imagine how difficult it was for him to play like that at any level much less D1.

Shepard then proceeded to yell over to Coach Farrar, who ran over in a hurry worrying something was wrong.

“I ran to him and said ‘What’s wrong Tee?’ He said, ‘Coach I just heard my first whistle.’

Awesome!

quote:

Shepard has even learned how to use his skill now in the game he loves most. He can read opposing coaches’ lips to get a head start on the play they’re choosing to run.

“I read what they’re yelling, so I know what they’re going to do, so then I can get the interception,” Shepard said.

This kid is going to be amazing… can't wait!

my old basketball coach was deaf and he had a similar story. that is incredible and his lip reading ability only makes me more happy knowing he has a head start on plays
