Starkville Night Life > Oxford Night Life
Newsflash: Starkville is a wonderful town

I bartended in Starkville and Oxford.

The only difference between Ole Miss and State nightlife is when you go to an Ole Miss party, everyone is brainwashed to ask you “Doesn’t Ole Miss throw the best parties?” Good God, I feel like I’m stuck in the Truman Show when I go hang out in Oxford. Wes Rucker was right. Ole Miss is unauthentic.

The Cotton District, the Junction, it all has similar if not better offerings than the square or the grove. All college towns have their own special unique flair and Starkville is no different. Main Street/Cotton District has everything you could want within walking distance. The other bars that are spread out provide a more diverse nightlife experience. That’s better than one cognate location. Stories of nightlife are better going to more spread out places in Starkville than going to the centralized square in Oxford.

So State Theatre closed. Zorba’s is better and has replaced it. Zorba’s can hold nearly half of what State Theatre could. Plus StaggerIn can similarly hold a ton of people and is in the heart of the Cotton District.

Personally I like the Cotton District more than the square. Cotton District is more laid back. Plus there are a ton of bars within two blocks. And where else can you get FREE BURRITOS on random nights? Not on the square.

Steakonastick’s mini-Bourbon street idea for Cotton District/Main Street would be a killer idea btw. It would kill the square.

Fact: Ole Miss students come to Starkville more often than you think. Ask any current students.

Food? Restaurant Tyler or The Veranda blows Boure or Ajax out of the water.
Burgers? Mugshots is constantly ranked the number 1 burger in the state.
Pizza? Dave's or Stromboli's. Need I say more?

Ladies? Ole Miss is great if you're into fake blondes and cougars trying to their hardest to be in shape and coming across as teenagers.

Alumni with money? MSU has PLENTY.

Hope this helps!

Haha that's a pretty stupid statement. How is that fact?

Obviously this guy is completely delusional. So does it really hurt his image that much to make up one more lie? Nope. No one I know has ever been like oh we should definitely go to Starkville this weekend.

The part about them coming to Starkville a lot more than you would think is a fact.

I like the Cotton District a hell of a lot more than I like the Square, and I've spent plenty of time at both.

The only problem is if nothing is going on in Starkville, nothing is going on. It's hard to make things happen if you're bored. When things are popping off, there aren't many places where you can have more fun.

I'd honestly rather drive the six+ hour drive back to my home town to party then "party" in Starkville.

I know a guy who went to Alabama and he would tell me that he and his friends spent as many weekends at Rick's, State Theater, and Dave's as they did out in Tuscaloosa. He also said that back in the 90's when Rick's would have some big name bands play, the place would have as many Bama folks as MSU people. However, that is assuming those Bama fans weren't from Columbus, but his point was that the Starkville bars were quite well known even as far as Tuscaloosa and that Tuscaloosa didn't offer those kind of places.

Reading SPS the past few days has made me realize there is no convincing them. They don't think our towns better, they don't think our woman are better, they don't think our campus is better, they don't think we have a single thing better than them. Even when the multiple national media outlets say we do and not better than just them but the majority of the country. I have to say that if I believed my town was as bad as Starkville Id believe we were cheating too.

How can you not like having all the bars in one place? If nothing is happening at a bar there you must drive across town drunk. Oxford you just walk next door.

The question is this: who is he trying to convince?

It's funny how State fans are always trying to convince, not only the rest of the SEC, but themselves that Starkville doesn't suck.
