Great read! It has me hyped for the upcoming season, but 2014 should be magical.

Pine box, sound familiar? Don't take things a coach says as absolute fact, it's just going to break your heart.

If he does this, his salary will be near 3 million a year. I can't imagine him leaving his "dream job", especially while being paid 3 million a year.
Like I said, if we can match the offers (over and under table money) from bigger programs AND keep facilities at a top level AND provide him good exposure AND match all the fringe benefits, he would probably stay. But we are a small school, with a small alumni base and a small fan base (although a lot of wins will change this). We are going to have a hard time keeping up with bigger programs, even if we are winning alot.
I'm not saying it's impossible that HF retires from OM. I am saying that it's improbable. I saying that it will take a ridiculous finacial commitment from you, me and every single OM fan out there in the world to keep him here, if one or more of the top programs in the country comes calling.
I'm saying that for Type A, successful, driven, goals oriented, results based sports coaches, the words "dream job" are used to describe the now, not the forever. The best coaches are always looking to get to "the top" of their profession. I love OM just as much as anyone, but I do not believe our job to be the top of college football. At least, not yet.
To think otherwise is foolish and naive.

I agree. My point is I don't think the big schools with the big money will come after him until we have a season in which we win 9-10 games, win the West, etc. IF he does that then his salary here will shoot up, which I think will keep him at OM. We are constantly adding onto our facilities as well so we are only moving up when it comes to that.

It's not that simple. We have to find a way to come up with that kind of cash. Which won't be easy when our stadium only holds 70 or 75K (after renovations) and we have one of the smallest Alumni bases in the SEC.
Bama's Fundraising Foundation can cut a check or tap it's massive Alumni base to make up the difference to pay a coach anything he wants, build any facility he requests or add any program he wants. We are simply not capable of that right now. Hopefully, that will improve with more wins and success, but it's far from guaranteed. Therefore, HF retiring after the next 15 or 20 years from OM is possible, but unlikely.

That money has to come from somewhere and our pot is simply not as deep as the top of the SEC.

quote:Exactly. At some point I think we might be able to get there. I agree with not getting my hopes up because of the Tub situation but I have a whole lot more confidence in Freeze than I did Tub.
We are simply not capable of that right now
