Hearing that SigEp has had their charter revoked by nationals...?
Can anyone confirm this?

Last reported that they were just suspended indefinitely while they investigate.

That's all I could find as well. Just trying to make sense of all the rumors coming off the social media machine

You sure that isn't sig ep at state you are hearing about? They had their charter revoked
Posted on 2/23/14 at 4:28 pm to Jma313
No way they get their charter revoked at Ole Miss for this. This wasn't fraternity driven. If chapters weren't revoked for nearly killing a kid due to alcohol, they won't be revoked for this.

Completely agree that they shouldn't get their chapter revoked. I think their nationals might clean out a lot of the academically underachieving brothers though

Their nationals has come down and done that a few times recently. Nationals has never seemed really happy with them (at least it looks that way) so this could be a last straw kind of thing

Sig Ep is the fraternity leading the way with the eliminating pledgeship movement. I believe SigEp at Ole Miss is considered a 'traditional' pledgeship model fraternity. If so, their nationals will take literally any excuse to kick them off campus. I know at Auburn Sig Ep constantly butts heads with their nationals and are at risk of having their chartered pulled.
While a number of fraternities likely would have pulled it anyways, from what friends have told me about sig ep, they'll pull if it just makes them look bad and gives them an excuse

I got hazed pretty hard back in 2009/2010. I was a pledge trainer in 2012. That pledge class I had got it really bad, and will probably be one of the last on this campus to have been like that.
I have a 13 year old brother and I'm not sure if I'll recommend being Greek to him or not. There's no telling where the whole system will be at that point. Sad.

I have a long time until it's time for my daughters to decide, but whatever they do, I'll be fine with it. If they want to, great, they have legacy status for a sorority. If not, oh well, that's their choice.

Sororities have stayed somewhat the same for a long time now, so I don't really feel any differently about them. The fraternities are becoming so pussified that I just don't think it's worth it anymore.

I can see that. Even when I was in a sorority there was absolutely no hazing. Hell, the pledges were treated like princesses because you didn't want anyone dropping out.
Granted, our were not on the same scale as the ones on big university campuses.

2009 wasn't shite at least in my fraternity. My freshman year was much worse than any other to follow, and even we were lighter than the years before us. Granted there was one night that involves a game called "Johnny Piss-Helmet" that we all agreed we took too far with a particularly shitty and stupid pledge, but that was it.

I can't understand why anybody would put themselves through that. Don't mean to sound like THAT gdi but I just don't do well with people my own age acting superior to me. I couldn't deal with some 20 year old treating me like shite in the name of friendship and brotherhood.

Why do they do it in the military? Prove your worth you new piece of shite. It also doesn't hurt that you put up with one year and get to dish out 3 years.

In the military people actually are superior to you though. They aren't just someone who happened to graduate hs a year earlier.

Prove your worth
To whom and why? Some 20 year old? And I don't see how any of the hazing is actually proving worth. Is someone who just stands there while his arse is being beat refusing to fight back proving his worth or just looking like a pussy? Same concept.
