True, but is that enough? I think if you're Ole Miss you have to ask the most crucial question out there, can you get someone better then Andy Kennedy? Personally, I think it's possible but your administration is going to have to make some commitments to the program (specifically financially) in order to make it happen. I don't know Ole Miss's athletic department well enough to say one way or another. But I can say you're in FAR better shape then State so you will make a better hire then Rick Ray so I wouldn't be concerned about getting stuck into that situation.

I do think given the history of the program you're either going to end up with a good coach with a background (Bruce Pearl maybe?) or having to take a chance on an up and comer. I think at the very least you get fellers out to see where you stand.

Very much so. We're annually one of the very bottom out of 330+ D1 teams in budget. I've been saying this all along.

I disagree. I'll freely admit that MSU's basketball program is traditionally a better program than ours. They have fallen on incredibly tough times but they are much more committed to basketball than we are. Them getting Rick Ray actually made me even more apprehensive about going after someone else.

People who want AK fired every year keep throwing up the whole "you can't keep thinking of us as little Ole Miss" are humorous. Basically because we ARE "little Ole Miss" in basketball. We've never truly committed ourselves financially to basketball.

Here's an excerpt from 2010..

quote:

University of Mississippi Main Campus 4,725,911(Revenue) 2,502,594(Expenses) 2,223,317(Profit) 47.0%(Margin)

Most teams around that margin or slightly better have 2, 3, or 4 times more budget than we do. Spend the fricking money.

Please tell me how we have a good offensive scheme?

Did ya notice how we score a lot on bad teams? Did your stats tel you that?

How about the fact we score in the 60s against good*(whoops) teams?

We scored 90 something in the first like 4 out of 5 I think.

Look we're poorly coached offensively. No passing. We take the first shot we see and that's just not good basketball.

I don't see how you think we're well coached offensively

Break-through thinking there...i tell ya. We score more against bad teams than we do good teams. I bet no other teams in the nation score less points against better teams.

One of the best scoring offenses in the nation. Please, explain how we can be so poorly coached yet still be 6th in the nation in scoring O.

We've won 75% of our games this year

Seems like a successful year.

wow.....you're pretty dense. As long as our offensive possessions lead to more points than their offensive possessions, then yes.

You seem to lack the ability to think logically. You're going to have mainly the exact same number of possessions offensively and defensively unless you start stealing in-bounds passes every other score.

Basically....it doesn't matter if you have 100 offensive possessions or 10...you're going to have the same number of defensive possessions. This is basketball. Teams score points. As long as you're more efficient on your end than they are, you win ball games.

And as Sorantable pointed out....winning 75& of your ball games this late in the season is pretty good.

Internally State was a bigger clusterfrick (JMO). You had players fighting in the stands, outright defying their coaches, etc. And that's just what we saw. It's easily set State back a few seasons (at best) despite what they've done traditionally. If Kennedy doesn't make the tournament I think at least from a stability standpoint you're in better shape.

I think you have a fine line to walk between recognizing limitations of your current situation and setting a higher bar for the program. As you said though it's going to take the money to do it not just in salaries but in facilities/support as well.

And really, fans need to demand it. It's how we got shite done in football.

completely agree. Haven't seen the revenue/budget numbers in a while but if we're still running a 40+% profit and with a sub-3 million dollar budget, it's stupid. We should break even every year until we build a solid foundation. I can, however, it does look like we're spending more money on gamedays in the arena. Increasing recruiting budget is a solid start. In the 2010 season, we spend just short of $91k on recruiting. For comparison Bama and Auburn spend 209k and 222k, respectively.

One thing I didn't really expect is we out-spent MSU with them at 80k. That surprises me.

Are you all looking at legitimately replacing the Tad Pad in the near future? Include a proposal for that and increase in salary and you may be surprised who you could hire IMO. But it couldn't be just blowing smoke.

Just playing devil's advocate, guys. No need to not think this through and, like Pank said, make sure it's nothing personal.

First half is legitimate. We just need to be able to pony up on that 2nd part.
