SEC FACT OF THE DAY

Why does LSU wear white uniforms at home?

In 1958, head coach Paul Dietzel chose to wear white jerseys for home games, and the Tigers won the national championship. A superstitious man, Dietzel didn't change the uniform after that season.

SEC FACT OF THE DAY

Since 1933, with only 2 exceptions, the Georgia/Florida game has been played in Jacksonville. But unlike OU/Texas, travel is not equal for both schools. Everbank Stadium in Jacksonville is 74 miles from Gainesville, but 345 miles from Athens.

Ole Miss was the “Red and Blue” & “Mighty Mississippians” until 1929 when a contest resulted in the nickname the “Mississippi Flood.” 2nd choice was a tie between the “Rebels” & the “Democrats.” The “Flood” never caught on. They became the “Rebels” in 1936

Mizzou’s block “M” was carved from stone by the freshman class in 1927.
The “M,” formed by whitewashed rocks, is 90-feet wide and 95-feet high. In 1957, pranksters changed the “M” to an “N” the night before the Mizzou-Nebraska game.

Recency bias here. You can't forget Billy Cannon, Y.A. Tittle, Kevin Faulk, Alan Faneca, and Dalton Hilliard.

Before an elephant was Alabama’s mascot, a donkey was…at least for a day.

In 1931, alumni in Phoenix presented the Tide with a donkey named “Poison” on way to the Rose Bowl. Alabama defeated Washington State 24-0 with Poison on the sidelines.

In 1984, the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 in favor of Oklahoma and Georgia, and against the NCAA giving college football an open TV market. Previously, the NCAA had exclusive control of deciding what teams would appear on TV, how often and when.

A line of 22 bright red train cars called “Cockabooses” sit behind the south end of South Carolina’s William-Brice Stadium. Privately owned, they are rented out by avid Gamecocks fans and serve as a tailgating hub.

Alabama & Mississippi State are the two closest schools in the SEC by geographical distance…only 85 miles between Tuscaloosa & Starkville. The rivalry between the schools is known as the “90 Mile Drive” or the “Battle for Highway 82.”

Alabama’s fight song, “Yea Alabama,” mentions 2 of the Crimson Tide’s early traditional foes…Georgia & Georgia Tech. No mention of arch rival Auburn.
. Bama plays their version of Dixieland Delight during games and Auburn is mentioned multiple times, along with LSU and Tenn.

One of my all time favorite songs. Was good to hear your university reinstated that tradition after cancelling it.
