OU Director of Compliance Brady Newville is now on the stand being questioned by Lauderdale.
Newville says he was not made aware of the similar case that was filed until last week. He says it was not in the NCAA database.

NCAA ends its questioning by telling Venables he’s “running a hell of a program.”
Well that may be a concession of sorts?

Newville points out that Heinecke and the case of the female student athlete both applied for the same waiver citing.

Newville says Heinecke did not receive the “totality of circumstances” review, but the female athlete did. Says he does not understand why the NCAA did not apply that to Heinecke, as they both filed the same citing.

We’re back.
Newville says he believes Heinecke’s petition should have been granted just as the female athlete’s because they are identical.
Newville says he looked for hours for the case in the database and couldn’t find it. Says it’s not standard practice to not upload cases.

Newville says the NCAA did not give Heinecke “flexibility” in his case, despite the NCAA stating they provide flexibility in the female athlete’s case.
Newville says that case is still not uploaded to the NCAA’s database as of this morning.

The NCAA is now questioning Newville about Heinecke’s petition. The NCAA points out the only statement from Ohio State for Heinecke is that they didn’t have tryouts, but nothing about COVID.
The NCAA says the female athlete was affected about COVID and provided proof.

Lauderdale is now back up, saying it sounds like the NCAA is assuming that Newville should know more about the female athlete’s case, despite it never being available to him.
Newville is now done at the stand.
OU general manager Jim Nagy is now up.
Nagy explains his background in player evaluation in the NFL. He backs up Tappana’s claims of needing an in-person evaluations.
“It’s critical…”
Nagy points out that a lot of college football players went back to school during the COVID year, and that made filling out the Senior Bowl difficult and also made roster building tough for colleges.

This was a great point from Mary Quinn Cooper when she got to the point of not only did players take advantage of the covid year and skip on going to Senior Bowl.
Those returnees would hinder Heinecke, but wouldn't four or five-star recruits who were already on their radar.

Nagy on what another year would do for Heinecke:
“It’d be huge for him.”
Says he told scouts back in August to start watching for Heinecke.
“To have that bigger runway, would be huge.”
“The NFL tries to avoid one-year wonders. Owen’s a half-year wonder.”

Nagy with a stat: “There’s only one linebacker in the last eight years that played less than 5% of the snaps in their second to last year.”
Nagy says Heinecke is on the cusp of having a big jump.
“He has a lot to gain coming back.”
He says he’d be shocked if Heinecke wasn’t a captain next year.

Nagy backs up Venables saying OU plays a lot of linebackers, so it won’t affect others. He also says the players in the locker room would welcome him back with open arms. Says it certainly wouldn’t be a negative thing for his teammates.
Cooper asks Nagy about another year would do for Heinecke’s legacy.
“Having a Sooner legacy matters in this state…”

Nagy says he believes Heinecke would get drafted in the fifth and sixth round.
Says if he came back, he thinks Heinecke could win the Butkus Award and that he could improve his draft stock.
Cooper makes the point with Nagy that if Heinecke had played three football games instead of three lacrosse games, he would have received a redshirt.
Nagy is now being questioned by the NCAA.

The NCAA asks Nagy if Kip Lewis and Cole Sullivan would have less playing time if Heinecke returned.
Nagy says Sullivan could play a third position (cheetah), but it’s not up to him.
“That’s probably a question for coach Venables.”
The NCAA asks Nagy if Heinecke would take the roster spot of someone else and Nagy says no. They’d have a 104 player roster without him and the intend to keep that number if he doesn’t get the injunction.

Nagy: “I have not heard from an agent from those other linebackers. If it were an issue, I would have heard from them.”
Owen Heinecke is now on the stand with Cooper asking the questions. He starts by providing his background at Bishop Kelley.

Heinecke on what another season at OU would mean to him: “To have a legacy at OU is really important to me… Another year to cement myself … and possibly win a national championship — that would mean everything to me.”
Posted on 4/16/26 at 11:52 am to OU Guy
Heinecke says the football team has been very positive about him trying to get another year.
Heinecke says he did everything he could to get recruited by major college programs. But says teams had little interest because they couldn’t see him play in-person.

Sorry, had ti run home and deal with a contractor.
Heinecke says he took the scholarship at Ohio State to play lacrosse because it felt like the only option he had. He says he would have walked on at OU at the time if the opportunity had been provided. He wanted to play major college football.
Heinecke says he spoke to Ohio State football coaches about walking on and to lacrosse coaches about redshirting due to injuries. But neither of those things came to fruition.
He says lacrosse coach didn’t redshirt him because of limited numbers on roster because of COVID.
Lunch break! (Bad typo lol)
We will resume at 1:30 p.m.
Thanks for following along, everyone.

“They aren’t that big” lol

"My love for football never disappeared no matter where I was... After lacrosse practice I would sit and watch the Ohio State football team practice."
He said he went from being in awe of them to "they aren't that big."
He said he eventually put himself in the portal and Coach Venables called him and wanted him to walk on.
