For now. Ruling says it does not need to go to vote. New mayor could rescind though, I think.

Does OU know what its doing with this? How would another way-off-campus sportsball building increase attendance? Do they have a study from a consultant that has any idea which way is up?

The bottom line is OU doesn’t have the dollars unless they borrow it OU doesn’t like to borrow money unless they have a good portion of the money in hand …. They need help for either a big donor or a city to chip in for public funds .

The mayor and chamber of commerce probably has a study from a consultant who outlined how much money will be made by the allies of the mayor and the chamber of commerce. I am as conservative as they come, but this thing stinks.

You can find the plans online. The plan includes a bunch of apartments wedged into the package - in the same area. Look at the plans and tell me parking for large events won't be a fiasco (if the thing ever holds any large events.) Parking for little league basketball tournaments overflow from the YAC to the adjacent field. Parking for these projects seems to be an afterthought.

The argument was "OKC residents will have an easier time getting to this arena vs. the Lloyd Noble arena" and that may be true but parking at Lloyd Noble was never an issue.

"But the new arena can accommodate other events." - like what? You already have the Paycom for large events. You have Riverwind, the new convention center at Scissortail, and several great smaller venues in the metro. There is no sweet spot which this thing would cater to.

"But it would be far more expensive to renovate the Lloyd Noble." Yeah, bullshite. Keep in mind it is not just the arena, the plan is an entire 'entertainment district' like a miniature Bricktown wannabe. Factor in the OU bball program being an afterthought and the Thunder being top 2 best team in the NBA, none of this makes sense.

OU needs to keep buying up houses around the campus and create as much space as possible to build new things on campus …..
