Oklahoma Sooners
@OU_Athletics

With tonight’s approval of the Rock Creek Entertainment District, we are one step closer to providing Sooner Nation and our programs with championship opportunities.

We are thankful to Mayor Heikkila and the Norman City Council for their support!

Living in NW Norman, and being a taxpayer, I have mixed feelings on this.

I want reading just a bit further and it seems that OU basically told Norman if they don’t want it he’ll build it outside of Norman and just do the deal with the county.

I live over the West side as well and I’m totally fine with it. Otherwise, what is Norman without OU? Just another town…

First of all, my property taxes have grown in chunks over the last 15 years. However, I was all for it until I saw the proposals. It'll be a traffic nightmare not just because of the arena, but add all the "dense, multi-family" apartments they're wedging into that area as part of the agreement and the whole 24th nw / rock creek / tecumseh / flood / robinson area will suffer. Flood & Tecumseh and 24th & Robinson are already an absolute shitshow.

So I ask myself, does OU need a basketball arena 5 miles from campus? Why not renovate Lloyd Noble? Why not demo & rebuild the fieldhouse? Do SEC fans travel for bball like they do football? Doesn't appear to be the case. And regarding concert venues - there are many great small venues in the metro, and a couple large venues. Do we really need something "in between"? Not really. But who cares, some people are set to make $$ at Norman taxpayers' expense.

Having lived here for a long time, one thing is for certain: the city of Norman can frick up city and infrastructure planning like no other. I don't see this being any different.

They have renovated Lloyd Noble many times. Structurally I bet they would need to tear it down. Then comes the Environmental Impact Studies and having no place for sports.

It was built in 1975 for $34 Million.

It’s 50 years old in 2025. There is a lifespan on places like that. I bet once 2027 comes around that place disappears and another Project begins.

Nothing is ever going to be perfect. The thing is Norman is the 3rd most populous City in Oklahoma. The SEC Conference is the future for OU sports. Name another City “ On the Rise”?

It’s darn sure not Stillwater.
