I can certainly respect a player for finishing the season and helping their team before going portal, however, this is essentially free agency and unless you are in the playoffs there is no need to risk your health in a meaningless bowl game.

I doubt he plays their bowl game if he transfers. And I bet we hear within the next 2 days.
I also don’t get caught up in the early portal hype of other teams. I promise OU has a plan. And a lot of good players have yet to portal. We are decreasing our roster to 105 so will have more outs than ins.
And its true on money, we need go have plenty of reserves in case Mateer gets into bidding war. We have his OC and QB coach on staff. He is a massive get and top QB. He will make a difference, and draw other portals.
And Michael Hawkins is all in on OU. He wants competition. My guess is he learns behind Mateer with a great QB coaching staff and then takes it over in 26.
Patience is needed. Block out all the noise from other teams or fans and what they sign. OU has a plan to overcome the unfortunate circumstances of 24.

Lots of chatter from Cougar nation that Mateer is gone. We’ll likely know today.

As the offseason roster restructuring continues, Oklahoma is looking to add between eight and 12 players from the transfer portal, Venables said. That isn't a hard number; there's some flexibility there, dependent on space and any other roster movement that may take place. But there are certainly some positions the Sooners want to prioritize in the transfer portal — aside from refreshing the special teams room.

I mean OU makes sense but we should be prepared if he ends up OSU or Oregon if it turns into an all out bidding war. I hate NIL.
