I hope BV learns from this. BA should have been fired for not being a team player. I like the 3 strike rule, where you give him 2 firm warnings and then he is gone. The longer a guy like that is on your coaching staff, the worse it gets.

The reason for wait til Mon, my thoughts
- Have to clear it thru AD
- Have to talk to Jason and see if he wants to temporary OC
- Want to keep Wilson but as an analyst because they are limited on coaches and analyst doesn’t count against coach count
- Had over 50 recruits at game. Lots stay thru Sun and need to do many meet and greets and parents and pictures
- Gotta reach out to select recruits privately to gauge sentiments.
- Know most of your commits will be contacted by opposing teams for negative recruiting. Need a plan how to communicate to them
- Making Jason OC keeps the OC spot open so can evaluate and decide after season. If hire outsider can promote Jason associate OC and TE coach which bumps his pay significantly and still keep him.
- Have to plan how to inform players and keep them vested. Although all goals are gone if they can finish 8-4 that would give them momentum heading to off season recruiting prime time. Plus make a bowl and finally win a post season game.
- Keeping all other coaches lessens disruption to team and would allow new OC to make his decisions
- Making Witten temp OC tells me he is the only offensive coach not touchable
- If can win out get fans back for next year and season tickets renewals. Many said publicly they were not buying for first time in decades
- Win out or show big progress hells with NIL
There are so many moving parts behind the scenesz

Brent Venables in his press release on Sooners interim OC Jason Witten:
“Coach Witten will serve as offensive coordinator and play-caller for the remainder of the season. Beginning today, he will lead our offensive staff in preparing a clear and focused plan that gives our players the best opportunity to execute with confidence.”

Imagine being Jason Witten.
17-year career in the NFL, holds 12 NFL & Dallas Cowboys records, 11 Pro Bowls. The list goes on. Walter Payton Man of the Year winner, 2012.. Probably the best career TE of all time. Retires; gets a HC gig at a small private school. Performs a minor miracle, winning two state championships in his 3rd & 4th year there.
Gets an offer to coach TE's at OU.. hell fricking yes for OU fans.. but is positioned to be at the direction of a virtual pimple-faced child in Ben Arbuckle. Coaches the TE's up, but has to wonder WTF he's doing here with this BS OC.
Arbuckle gets shitcanned, no other offensive coaches are deemed untouchable, has pedigree but no experience at OC.. named the interim OC. At OU.

They say you make your own luck
He has a challenge ahead. Can’t install new offense at this point. Has hurt players. Going on road to Swamp. Has to make immediate QB decision.
If he can pull off a win that would be something else. OU is +6.5.
Fans are not expecting miracles just something to show a heartbeat. A loss can still be ok if we show something to give a bit of hope.

Most are saying tOSU but I worry its our 27 QB. Could be FSU too. Its flipmas season and firing OC will lose us some players most likely

BFD- If we lose recruits over BA being replaced by JW, then they are not very smart and we don't need them. If any recruit was committed because of BA, they have not been paying attention. Commitments are to OU, not a marginal OC.

Great point, plus we'll have portal options.

Dean Blevins
@DeanBlevins
I was shocked to learn from two ppl with knowledge of how Kevin Wilson has not been utilized much at all in his recent time with #Sooners.
This OU analyst w an impeccable proven reputation has not been in the loop about Ben Arbuckle’s firing and the thinking moving ahead. More to the point “Ben Arbuckle did not ever seek/rely on Wilson. HC could’ve made that different but didn’t. What a waste!!

I would think Jason does. My question is why no one has offered Wilson a job or maybe they have and since he’s getting older doesn’t want to move. Getting paid to do nothing is a great job after-all.

He's 65 years old, his glory days were 20 years ago. I'm not surprised nobody's offered him a job recently but I am shocked he's had negligible input on anything, has a title of Assistant Head Coach of the Offense, and is banking $500k annually. Jesus H. Christ.
If what Blevins says is true, that's on Brent. But yes I would think Witten gets his input.
I am actually stoked at Witten being the interim OC. He can't change a ton at this point, but he's seen what plays work and what doesn't. A dude who was a college all-star and played at a very high level in the league will know a bunch just from osmosis. Can't wait to see what he does.

Things I heard from connected friends (always take with grain of salt), Wilson didn’t want to take over once Arbuckle was fired because it’s a shite show and he doesn’t want to be connected to it.
Which fits in too. At 65 he doesn’t want to do a lot of work only to be blamed if it goes bad. At same time he has knowledge and if Jason taps it, that could be huge.
Jason on the other hand is hungry and full of new energy and is staring at an opportunity of a lifetime. People know its a mess and season is gone so even if we lose he has less stress than normal. But I think players will love playing for him and we’ll see a whole new attitude and effort.
I did also hear Mateer will start. But will have a short rope. And to be honest thats probably best for this game. Swamp at night is tough and you don’t want to expose either Whitt or Bowe to that at start. Once game gets going if Mateer is struggling then we’ll see how fast Jason keeps him in. My guess is we’ll see Whitt at some point.
