Why does Baseball wait so long to name award winners?

Seriously, they're waiting a full TWO weeks after the world series to name the Cy Young & MVP.
I care and all but my full focus switches to other sports pretty quickly once the season ends, and I would imagine most people feel that way.
Why not strike while the iron is hot?? Don't they vote on it before the playoffs are over anyways?
