when did they start calling it UAB
It's a two-parter — 1966 and 1984.

In 1936, in response to the rapid growth of the Birmingham metropolitan area, the University of Alabama established the Birmingham Extension Center and enrolled 116 students.
In 1945, UA's newly established four-year School of Medicine moved from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham.
In 1966, the Extension Center was renamed the College of General Studies and elevated to a full four-year program. That and the School of Medicine were merged into the University of Alabama in Birmingham, reflecting that it was still an offsite department of the main campus in Tuscaloosa.
In 1969, the legislature created the University of Alabama System. UAB became one of three four-year institutions. UAB was now governed by the Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama System.
Reflecting this change, in 1984, the University of Alabama in Birmingham was officially renamed the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
In 2018, UAB's endowment was more than $1 billion. The flagship UAB Hospital was the eighth largest in the nation.

“The Gentry”
So, I went to the Auburn game this past weekend to do some advanced scouting on #HANK.
Thanks to your ridiculous avi, I was able to correctly identify that Dylan Gentry was, in fact, The Faskmasked Singer.

The Gentry is sort of Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Lynn Swann, Elvis, and Prince rolled into a package.
