BRUSSELS—The European Union for the first time will finance the purchase and delivery of weapons, in a show of support for Ukraine against Russia’s invasion, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Sunday. The EU also will extend to Belarus sanctions similar to those it imposed on Russia, ban the entry of Russian planes into EU airspace and ban from the 27-country bloc Russian state-owned media outlets Russia Today and Sputnik, as well as their subsidiaries.

Unless Putin cracks, which he may because this has turned out to be a lot more expensive than he thought it was, this is going to get really bloody. They may be starting diplomatic talks but the question is how much will the proud Ukraine government be willing to concede to end the invasion?

If Russia is willing to pay the price they will win a conventional war. But the butcher's bill is likely to be high in the short term and in the long term there will almost certainly be a large Ukraine insurgency.

So, things to look at going forward. The battle for the cities. Kharkiv, the second largest city in the Ukraine fended off an attempt to take it in a rush. That is going to get ugly.

Khiy is the capital city of Ukraine and by all accounts its encircled and besieged with heavy fighting along the perimeter. A city of about 3 million people is under siege. Unless peace breaks out they are going to try and starve/blast them out.
