I grew up in the Westboro Baptist Church. Here's why I left
Megan Phelps-Roper talks about growing up under the influence of the Westboro Baptist Church and why she and her sister left.
It’s a riveting talk that could be used as a template for healing the hateful divisiveness in today’s America.
She’s a brilliant woman with a lot to share. I hope she can manage to get a national stage.

WTF did he say and how on earth did such an irritating person manage to get a TED Talk?

I've heard her speak before, she is super intelligent, but that is also a great example of what brainwashing can do to a child. It's actually quite amazing that she was able to leave that situation.

Brainwashing is an insidious characteristic of humanity. That this lovely woman was able to think her way out of its hold on her is remarkable and shows just how intelligent she is. A lot of people could learn from her and the journey she has traveled.

Of course, all Protestant churches will be lumped in with this Westboro.. they certainly didn’t handle things well. Bible clearly states Jesus was a friend of sinners but that doesn’t mean he participated or condoned their activities. God decides what is right and wrong and decides punishment and reward. All we can do is choose to believe and follow or reject. Doesn’t change the truth.

Agree. Now, with regards to Westboro, the point they were trying to make, at least as I understand their protests, were that America was falling away from God morally, which is true. However, their method of conveying that message wasn't a message of love, discussion, understanding as the lady promotes in the talk, it was just to basically say "see, we told you, and all the bad that is happening in this country is because of the sinful behavior of the people".
But instead of crafting that message in a positive way, they went full on "God hates you as a result", which isn't true at all for those that understand Scripture.
God's love never ends for the people he sent his son to die for. The truth is that everyone you encounter is someone for whom Jesus died, and we need to treat them that way, regardless of beliefs, morality, etc.

Jesus only issue of true anger was against the money changers today known as Goldman Sachs, etc. if we are truly cursed it because of Wall Street much more than Hollywood

Only if Goldman Sachs set up offices in churches; Jesus was mad bc of WHERE the money changers were.
