Honestly though what's your view on the Rome vs Greece/Macedon question? Who was superior, Rome for its victory in military, or Greece for its victory in culture with Rome's adoption of it?

The Ottomans were not an external threat at that time because they were allied with two very large continental powers and for the most part Ottoman military activities were restricted to within their own Empire.
Also, your little freedom fighter Lawrence gave us the enlightened state that is Saudi Arabia and Al Qaeda and 9/11. Ottomans never would have put up with that shite. Good job Britain.

I tend to view them as a continuum rather than in opposition but if forced I suppose I'd prefer the Romans because of their lasting power.

Britain lost it's superpower status went they went to Africa to protect a corporations interest in a monopoly. America will fall the same way.
Rome fell from within long before the barbarians succeeded in attacking from the outside. The leader and the senate allowed greed of a few to override the best interest of the country and people as a whole. America is falling right now for similar reasons.
History is like a good Shakespeare tragedy in that the audience sees the fall coming but the actors don't changes the script and the outcome, hence the tragedy as the eventual outcome is preventable.

Cute dogs. Have never had a German Shepperd. Family was gonna get one when I was a kid from a humane society, the dog seemed really nice and I wish we could've gotten him. But they said in order to get him we'd have to take him to classes for behavior training because he was food aggressive, so my dad said screw it and went and bought a beagle elsewhere

I really do wish we'd gotten that dog. Oh well. My dad got a black and tan coon hound/vizla a few years ago. Big dog, its gotten fat
