Just bad luck, man, feel super bad for him.
This is why you always have the feeling out process when you're a top tier wrestler. You have to hide your takedowns behind striking in this day and age. It used to be you could easily just close the distance, but strikers have learned to keep wrestlers at bay.

Reading other fighters tweets about that knockout is hilarious.
That was awesome. Glad the shite talker got what he deserved.

I get Ben is world class wrestling....but a guy is running at you full clip and you bend over at the waist??????

That's an extremely low percentage move (flying knee), even when timed. ONE (fighting organization) has a ton of Muay-Thai bouts where they throw them all the time. It really just has to be timed correctly and he did.
Especially when going in for a takedown, the most vulnerable part of the body to knockouts (the jaw) is hidden and it takes a lot more force to the crown/temple/top of the head to get a KO.
Cocky wrestler thought he was indestructible and got shown he wasn't. Interesting to see where he goes from here, but the reaction his body had was a sure sign of brain damage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abnormal_posturing#Decorticate

Yeah, it's not really like that.
Jorge's move was borderline amateur in that spot. It was definitely the Joker card in the deck of possibilities.
Certainly well thought out, but it was a wild hail-many type of home-run swing maneuver that worked in such a perfect way it's very unlikely it could go THAT well for him even a two percent of the time he attempted it.
Very unfortunate deal considering Ben's story as a fighter.
He'll likely get discredited for the rest of his life by people who don't really understand the by-chance nature of Jorge's flying knee in that spot.
Let's remember Ben was essentially retired when Dana finally let him compete in the UFC.
Sad deal. Hopefully he gets some redemption with another win or two in the promotion.

He will be fine
But props to masvidal. This was something he had planned, trained on, was going to do, then executed to perfection. This wasnt luck

People that keep saying that really aren't processing what the other people are saying on it.
Like yeah, it was premeditated and thought out.
But it was still wildy fortunate because of the likelihood of being repeated in the same circumstances.
Maybe fortunate is a better word than lucky because of how people process words.
Ben will be trolled by this for the rest of his life, which is unfortunate considering his full body of work as a combat athlete.

sure
i guess the best way to put it is "Luck is What Happens When Preparation Meets Opportunity."
I think Ben will be ok after this...everyone gets caught. Plus it my eyes he's handling it about as best you can. Least he didnt go dark for like 3 weeks

We all remember Ronda doing something like that and we kinda knew she was weak mentally, Ben is definitely handling it better but if I were his coach I'd be telling him to maybe call it quits. You can only take so many giant concussions like that one and with the abnormal posturing to boot? Better to just be safe and coach.
What Sleeping Tiger is saying, by the way, is that while you can plan to knee someone coming in for a takedown the chances even after planning are very low. This was literally just all of the right circumstances coming together.
If he had mistimed that just a small amount we're talking about how Jorge stupidly left the ground and got dropped on his head and ended in a few seconds. I'm not an Askren fan saying that, just saying that it was just the stars aligning for Jorge.

Masvidal said in an interview last week that he didn't actually decide to come out with that knee till the start of the match, he knew he would at some point but hadn't decided
