Memphis booted that convention for a reason. Those people were awful.

Yes. They don't tip any worse than the Sunday morning church crowd though. At least they didn't a long time ago, when I worked as a server for a minute.

When I worked for Enterprise, they were some of the worst customers I ever dealt with. They would have mountains of luggage and hat boxes, and were rude more often than not. The Cadillacs were in high demand that week ( another stereotype that was accurate, at least for that organization.)

I had a grandfather that was a cheap arse tipper. He was not hurting for money, and even owned a restaurant at one time.

I once saw him leave 5 bucks on the table after a bill around 100 bucks.

We learned to carry cash and to put it on the table after he got up.

Weird guy. He didn't mind splurging on some things and being cheap as hell on other things.

He always wanted his fridge and freezer filled to the brim. A lot of food would go out of date.

In my experiences, pastors and law enforcement people tipped the worst.

My grandparents would do this too, and they hated throwing things out. My mom and aunt would have to go through and clean it out every so often. It was because they grew up during the Depression though.

Yeah, they do. I just remember being a kid, and my mother telling me not to eat anything in the fridge without her checking the date first.

You are probably old enough now to know the truth.

All old people start hoarding food when their mind starts to go.

Your grandparents were not in good mental health if your mom and aunt were sneaking in to throw food away.

Be prepared to offer this service to your parents in the not-too-distant future.

My wife and I have already started.

Pro-Tip.... as soon as you start to notice alot of expired food around their house around the holidays or whenever you visit, don't blow it off. Do your best to get them to a neurologist. Alot of mental problems that old people have can be slowed down with early detection and medication.

ETA- they might seem completely lucid in conversation... but lots of expired food is a dead giveaway. The only exception would be if they ALWAYS had old expired food, in which case they have a completely different type of mental problem that also needs to be treated.

My grandfather died of cancer over 15 years ago, and my grandmother is about to turn 92, and still lives on her own.

This was happening 30 years ago, and not because they weren't there mentally.

Right. And your dog Petey went to live on a farm one day while you were at school.

Yeah mine too. My grandfather would even tell you it was because of the depression and he was never going to be without food again. He also never threw away anything that wasn't completely beyond repair or to far gone to scavenge parts off of.

I always give black people extra large tips to avoid being labeled a racist and to avoid them giving me nasty stares or mean looks and causing them to possibly send one of their bros outside to key my Lexus ... or worse.

But make sure you tip using a well-secured credit card ... and never, not ever, should you flash large amounts of cash in front of your African-American servers.

Yep. My wife's grandfather had tons of old tools and things he thought he could fix later on if he needed. All organized in his basement.
