Not particularly but I enjoy the populist perspective of Steinbeck. He is our guy.

Only book of his I've ever read was of mice and men. Made me decide to not seek out his other works

Homer. Assuming the translations are accurate his prose can be long but they don't suck.

Yeah, I keep forgetting that epics are a form of poetry.
You consider Steinbeck a good author but not Dickens?

Robert E. Howard was better than both. Very sophisticated stuff

You've clearly never read the book by the man who went into the amazon rain forest and did drugs with natives where he was elevated to a higher plain and met our lizard alien overlords in their dimension

Sid and Marty Kroft circa mid 70's?

Land of the Lost - I think they remade it as a movie in the past decade

My school made me read some book about this indian girl who gets bought to be some dude's wife. said dude is sick and dies, so she winds up being abused by his parents before escaping, being raped by an artist, and then starting a quilting business.

Am I the only one to find the part in BOLD fascinating?

I think they should focus on toilets for awhile first.

I liked Dickens and Steinbeck because both wrote their eras.

Dickens was wordy but it was a time when folks had much broader vocabularies and words could be more specific tho verbose.

I really liked Steinbeck but in school you get stuck with OM&M or GoW. I might suggest "Winter of Our Discontent" or "Cannery Row".

This actually sounds pretty good. Main Character is doing what he can to put food on the table after his father lost the family fortune, he gets fed up and decides to do something to get it all back.
I might actually read this in spite of my dislike for of mice and men

What age was the book?

Ghandi era and I can see spinning cotton but quilts are usually for colder weather

Homeless Bird came out in 2001 and it was a present day story as her husband before he died was studying computers I think.

you do realize the himalayas are in India right? It does get cold and sometimes people like to lay on quilts instead of dirt floors.
