So you're not a try hard that would have chanted the song in the video? I find that very hard to believe. But I've been wrong before.

Did I strike a nerve when I called you a try-hard? Hit really close to home, huh? One of my good friends was president of a top frat at LSU 4 years ago and he told me of racist stuff they said/did. Just wondering if you were in the same one. Sorry you needed to pay for friends to get laid and get hyperdefensive that you weren't cool enough to associate with them without being in a frat like I was. But I'm proud of you for finding your only way to get laid in college. If you didn't spend thousands of dollars on those parties just imagine what kind of gutter rats would have their DNA inside of you. You do you bro. I'm glad that someone so unlikable as yourself made their way.

Bit brash don't you think? I had plenty of friends who weren't greek while I was in undergrad. Sure, Greek Life is a social culture, but the "paying for your friends" line is ignorant. That is like saying you "paid for your friends" when you went to college. Like any club or organization, there are dues to keep the organization functioning.

You've delivered plenty.

I have my high school daughter read things like this as she contemplates Greek life and college. She'll be super-impressed.

Let her read old row if you really want her to avoid being Greek.

In all seriousness though, it has pros and cons like any other organization. Personally, I had a blast.

Meh. It's a negative stereotype about Greek life but it's plenty accurate at times. Plenty of try hard dweebs in frats that wouldn't have friends if they didn't pay to be in their frat. Take the good with the bad. Even my good friend that was President of a top LSU frat 4 years ago complained about the try-hards. Good chance that white beans was one of the very ones he was talking about. Hilarious.

I'm not really steering her anywhere. I'm giving her information and data. She's got a pretty good head on her shoulders. She's very used to over-indulged basic kids at her HS, so that won't be an issue.

And as a friendly aside, you do come off as a total try-hard douche. It's probably a total coincidence.

I've known plenty of sorority girls that went all over due to being from a rich Texas suburb and usually the ones with good heads on their shoulders turn out okay. It's definitely a culture of basicness though. They turn in to clones their first couple years in school, but most grow out of it.

Yup. I want her making her decisions with her eyes wide open. She's not impressionable enough to go along with any of the tomfoolery in the aforementioned video. And there's some pluses to Greek organizations. I know there are minuses, but that's life. Her mom, who did the Greek thing, is more opposed to it. But I figure we'll let the kid sort it out.

Okay, that's a really good perspective to have.

It's a totally different experience for girls. Their rush is fricking brutal.

My mother was an OU tridelt and she doesn't want my sister joining a sorority, but I think it really depends where she goes to school. At places like OU, it's so large, it's hard not to. But I hope my sister gets good enough grades to go somewhere better than Oklahoma.

I refuse to be in any organization that's standards are so low that it would accept Russians as members, or me.
