Never really dated online.....
Closest I got was in the late 70's and early 80's when the internet was still monochrome and no GUI's that had early "chat" programs but instead of living in your mom's basement and never meeting it was intended to be used for meeting IRL. As example
ThreeLegJoe : Going to Busters at 7pm for pool and booze
FoxyLady (who turned out to be male) : First one there gets the table
Cheese Grits : I have a roll of quarters from last week
Maroon (the only woman in the biology lab) : OK, will be there later
(of course this conversation might take 1/2 to hour to happen because you were busy doing something else and no cell phones to multitask)
Before that you had letter writing which took longer but was well worth the wait as it was a slow and subtle courtship that meant way more because of the effort it took to write them (also, women had really good penmanship then and they looked visually attractive without being overtly fluffy (like a women who writes Candi and puts a heart in place of the dot on the "i")

Some selections of Roman Grafitti (yes these are real)
exterior of the House of Menander: Satura was here on September 3rd
House of Pascius Hermes; left of the door: To the one defecating here. Beware of the curse. If you look down on this curse, may you have an angry Jupiter for an enemy.
(House of Caesius Valens and Herennius Nardus): Rufus loves Cornelia Hele
Bar of Athictus; right of the door: I screwed the barmaid
Kinda funny reading this stuff from a while ago

Well to be fair he was a big Hendrix fan tho I thought I heard he became a she in the 90's but I had lost track by then.
You are correct tho, early on folks still created names to draw attention but since you all hung out in the real world it was not like you could keep any secrets.
Good times, I miss them. At least you got outside more back then.
It may also explain my posting style as conversations were almost always in paragraphs instead of just a few words and outside of things like FUBAR there were not many abbreviations.

Yeah, like I said, getting laid is easy enough. The question is thought, what do you consider successful online dating? I mean, most dudes are just looking to get laid, like I said, but if you're a female looking for an actual relationship you may find it difficult online. Because a guy who wants to take a woman seriously isn't going to "neg" a woman right out the gates.

Dating is frickin silly anyways. I'm glad I don't have to do that shite anymore.

If you are pooping on your date, you may be doing it wrong, unless it is a fetish.
Dating
Becoming someone else to attract someone who is doing the same only to wonder why it does not work after 6 months when you both turn back into who you really are.

This reminds me of those late 00's VH1 pick up artist shows
Do y'all bros even peacock?

I walk like a peacock in public. I carry a very large trench coat with an intricate pattern on the inside akin to a peacock tail that I like to show people.

The rapid advance of technology (and its practical acceptance) has changed many aspects of human behavior. There is certainly no going back.

I tried online dating. None of the women wanted to actually meet in person, though. All they wanted was to "know" me online. I don't know if that says more about me or them, LOL. Oh, and money. Some of them actually asked for money. So, all in all, my experience was, well, not the best

Times sure have changed since the halcyon days of MIRC :)

Does anyone have any thoughts on good dating websites/apps?
I know quite a few people who have met their wife or long term girlfriend on Tinder/Bumble/Hinge (Hinge being the most normal girls in my experience). I’ve had quite a few encounters and most of them looked like their picture, which was surprising to be honest. But the ones that were more than a one time thing did want to move very fast.

Seems TG45 and KSG have been doing that on the OT lately, unless they are related

Dang, Carolina Girl for the kill shot.
And I thought the pros stayed on the OT.
