I was wondering earlier. How does the language barrier work between refs and players? Like that this match for instance. Coast of Ivory speaks French and Japan speaks Japenese. The refs are Chilean. How does that work out?

IIRC the refs must know English and that's the language you use between language barriers.

A lot of guys speak multiple languages. Most of the Ivory Coast players play in England, as do a few of the Japanese. Hand gestures can overcome the language barrier most of the time.
