interesting fact: no European team has ever won the World Cup in South America.
I wouldn't be surprised if it happens this year.

I don't really want to venture over to the soccer board for this.
The soccer board is really one of the best boards on TD. If you have any questions, 99% of the people over there will be glad to help you out.

I know enough about soccer to hold a convo with the casual viewer but I dont have the drive to dvr all the epl games that come on in the morning/mid day. So I cant really get into it.
Mine is basically based on playing a good amount of soccer growing up and FIFA

Oh I ventured over there before for some of the US games. I have feeling they already have a ton of "I watch soccer every 4 years" posters there now, so I don't feel like adding to the clutter.

FIFY.
My soccer knowledge has grown substantially just reading the discussions. I've always been a fan since I lived in England as a kid. Recently though I got a puppy and he had me up at like 8 or 9 am every day. Caught a lot of EPL in the spring and my schedule for school worked out to watch all of the Champions League.
Really starting to embrace my soccer fandom. I do need to catch more MLS though.
ETA: That and reading Zonal Marking. The tactics of the game have really started to capture my imagination.

You're probably right. I've just seen a few be pretty condescending the few times I've ventured over there so I avoid it. Hardcore soccer fans can be a bit insufferable as it is, so adding a bit of condescension to it is a bit much for me.

US is in a group of death. If we make it out alive that'd be a huge accomplishment.

It's not impossible, but any scenario I can imagine involves having Germany already clinched. Get 4 from the first two games and then hope for a lazy German effort and get the draw to get 5 and have Portugal only get four. I'd be ecstatic if it happens.

9 am??? How turrible
I'm up by six on a weekday. This summer it's been five at the latest. I do my best work in the morning.

And why can't FIFA seed a tournament worth a shite?
