If Altidore isn't healthy by Tuesday, then we need to start either Aron or Mix and possibly both.

Zusi was a fantastic change -- he is at least good at winning corners and of course, if we don't have Altidore we have got to do something up front. We need an attack because our defense is...let's just say it's not very good.

I think our defense has actually been good. We've forcing teams to take most of their shots from outside the box. The problem has just been keeping possession and doing something with it once we get the ball. That's where I think Mix would really come in handy.

I would like to see something like this:

Howard
DJ/Cameron or Omar/Besler/Beasley
Zusi, Bedoya, or Yedlin/Bradley/Beckerman or Jones/JJ,Z, or AB
Mix
Dempsey

Or maybe have AJ on the left side as well.

Probably because we've been stacking the box with 8 players almost every game after Ghana.

Would you really feel comfortable if we only had our back four? It's really our only weak point in our team. I think they've played fantastically given the personnel, but if we want to advance we have got to find some way to keep the ball.

Although in the Germany game, I don't think we were playing anywhere near full potential and we were just making sure we didn't lose by a significant margin, in spite of Germany trying their damnedest to get us out.

Our problem is not defense...

Our problem is our Midfield. Midfield is supposed to control the field of play with possession and distribute the ball to create scoring chances.

Bradley has been nothing short of god awful in this world cup so far. We have been living on a prayer playing the long ball with break away chances but that will only go so far. We need more possession and movement in transition--at this point, it is non-existent.

Our stamina is unbelievable, if Germany had to go to OT with us I don't think they would have been able to hold up.

I got the exact opposite impression after watching the replay last night. Our players looked completely spent, which was to be expected after having to play in Manaus just a few days prior. Hopefully they're staying off the feet this weekend and getting their legs back under them.

Couldn't agree more. I think Bradley really misses having Altidore up front, but I've also never seen him be this terrible with his first touch.

They say he's defensively minded, but I've noticed that much of his greatness has come on the attack. He had a lot of bad challenges and touches yesterday.

A lot.

This.... and this is an understatement. I swear Ive played with guys in high school and afterward that would have played better than Bradley yesterday and that is no exaggeration.

No soccer expert here but from what I saw, it was difficult to tell how our back line would fair on its own. When you're packing 8 back deep and can't hold the ball in the mid field, it's going to result in endless pressure on the defense. Even with 8 back there, when it's that relentless, a ball is eventually going to bounce the wrong way and find the net.

My very amateur opinion moving forward is they can't hold so many guys do deep back. Have got to be able to control the middle third of the field. In ways, it should make the back 4 even better I would think. That is, if guys like Bradley have better first touches and control the ball.

Am I way off in my thinking. Using a football analogy, what my amateur eye saw was a team playing prevent defense. Not a fan of going into a shell like that.

And this is the important part. The defense needs to be able to do a lot of it on its own, especially on breaks.

Yes and we need to do a much better job of clearing the field... meaning clearing everyone out of the backfield and moving up the field as the transition progresses.

Again... this starts with our midfield. We have talent in the midfield but bradley is a big reason for concern right now... honestly.
