I was born and raised in Hoover so I go to other areas of Alabama or rural southern areas and people tell me I sound northern. But then I go out of the south and people tell me I sound southern.

It's a comfort thing for me. My natural way of speaking has a distinct drawl to it, although I speak at a relatively normal pace even then. When I don't care how I sound is when it comes out. Otherwise I'm very well spoken.

I have a lot of friends from the Birmingham suburbs and they all have a southern accent to a small degree, but it's a lot less noticeable than the typical small town accents from central Alabama.

:slowclap: I really don't have anything against Tuscaloosa. I was just stupid the last time I was there and had to put two pledges into their place and then call my ex to get directions because I was lost at two in the morning after the Ole Miss game.
