When the landmass that is now the Indian subcontinent slammed into Asia about 50 million years ago, the collision changed the configuration of the continents, the landscape, global climate and more. Now a team of Princeton University scientists has identified one more effect: the oxygen in the world's oceans increased, altering the conditions for life.

Altered ocean currents I'm guessing? Wow, thank you India, this makes up for all the spam scam calls.

No it doesn't. "john with customer support" sucks.

India even caused an argument between me and my middle school science teacher.
He was talking about how it was its own continent. Told him no, its a country and part of Asia. then he wanted to talk about how it used to be separate and how its categorized as a sub continent to prove me wrong. Same teacher that told me rivers always flow North to South and I had to cite examples in front of the class to get him to change my grade.

Dude, it kind of is its own continent. It’s literally called the subcontinent. Google it. The mountains around it kind of divide it out by itself, linguistically, culturally, ethnically, geographically, and grammatically.

Yea so is Europe but the only people who refer to Indians, Pakistanis, or Bengalis as “Asian” are the British press when they’re trying to cover up immigrant rape gangs.

Let’s get back on topic. Trumanfangs brings us cool science stuff consistently and let’s show some respect. It’s crazy to think about how continental shift could have caused a change that big. Scales of time be big yo.

Europe also has far more nations than the "sub continent" and is over 2 million square miles bigger than India

Both India and Africa are far more diverse than Europe.

I've read that alterations in weather patterns as the Himalayas got truly gigantic are what caused the various hominid species to leave Africa and begin to colonize the planet. Now whether modern science agrees with that now... I have no idea. That is the great thing about science, it marches on.

The Himalayas affect weather in Africa? How? Wind blows left to right.

Orange is most diverse, blue and white are least.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_ranked_by_ethnic_and_cultural_diversity_level

India is the 17th most diverse country in the world.

America is the 85th.

I am speaking of the variations of the 51 countries between each other, as compared to the variation in one country (india)
Thus Europe can be classified as a separate continent (along with its size) where as India is simply a country.

And btw if you didn't know, the Nile doesn't flow N to S. Did you used to teach at a high school in a corn field?

Back on topic somewhat though, if the continents were all together as a super continent (Pangea) at one point, then with the process of sea floor spreading on going, wont the continents eventually collide again to form another super continent?
