Your French class took a trip to NOLA? Instead of, say, France or Quebec where actual French is spoken?

Otherwise known as winning.

I'm 100% southerner through and through and I have nothing but grudging admiration for how Grant and Sherman conducted their operations.

Both understood that the way to end the war and thus the nation's long term suffering was to engage in ruthless and utterly violent total war in the short term - a lesson completely lost on people today. Further, his campaign through Georgia and the Carolinas was as ballsy as any you've ever seen. The potential to see his army completely isolated without access to supplies and destroyed was very real (and may have happened if John Bell Hood hadn't been commanding the CSA forces) yet he did it anyway and pulled it off.

That's a shame. If only the blacks could have something taken away from them so they could see how it feels. Something like their freedom for 350 years...

Time for'em to get over that shite.

And Lee was not fighting for slavery ... he was fighting for states' rights ... and guess what, now we're all slaves to the Federal Government.

You millennials kill me though ... how gullible y'all are.

I don't disagree ... regardless, his statue should come down as well. What he did, just like what Lee did, would be unacceptable today.

If Lee is being villainized for the socially accepted practices of his day, today, then so should Sherman.

We no longer allow generals to sweep through lands raping, pillaging and burning.

The hypocrisy is not lost on everyone here I would assume.

If it saves the tax payers money I'm all for taking these things down and auctioning them off. My desire to eliminate debts far surpasses any southern pride.

I'm not leaving ... you wanna try to make me leave Tbird? Meet me at whatever Sonic you choose ... just give me time to get there.

#NCAAsoblack #NFLsoblack #NBAsoblack #OSCARSsowhite ... but they tryin' to make it #soblack.

We're all racists to some degree Tbird ... even you. Especially you obviously. Because you are the one playing the race card ... whereas I honestly do not see race IRL, in my everyday life. The only time I see it is when it keeps being played every fricking day of our lives ... non-stop, for political purposes.

The issue here is balance, yin and yang. It's outta whack. It's probably not going to end well over the long run.

So you believe the Constitution, which expressly grants rights to the states ... should be removed and re-written as well I must assume.

quote:

The US Constitution does NOT serve merely to grant rights or powers--IT LIMITS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S AUTHORITY--by defining its powers--PERIOD.

This very distinction is the crux of the problems in America's government!
We effectively allow ourselves to worship the government and it's papers--by the words we use! We teach our children that our rights are granted by the grace of government.

Most American citizens even believe the fundamental rights are granted to them by the Constitution. We have those rights--inherently--the Constitution prohibits these rights be violated by the government.

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." The Tenth Amendment to The Constitution of The United States.

Simply, only the powers outlined in the US Constitution are given to the Federal government--ALL other powers are RESERVED TO the "States respectively, or to the people."

As such, the individual States of America are sovereign and have inherent rights. The States' actions in signing into the Constitution, the agreement, served to grant powers and authorities to the Federal government, not the other way around.

The Constitution is ONLY the source of powers or authority as outlined--NO MORE. It's purpose is to limit government's authority and forbid violation of our inherent rights--period!

Says the guy who's throwing a temper tantrum online because some statue is coming down. Time to get over some little statue, don't you think? It's yesterday's news.

The South fought til the bitter end for Slavery. This entire sham about 'state rights' was blasted by southern apologists. While the south DID fight for state rights, they did so with the intention of using those rights in order to keep slavery legal for as long as possible

Y'all bitch and moan about how the north destroyed everything in the south that Y'ALL built. But in reality, all y'all did was whip a bunch of blacks into building the south for you. The South was built on the backs of blacks.

I remember Carolina_Girl mentioning you guys were going to have a tailgate get-together for the A&M/SC game next season in Columbia and Tbird was invited. That's going to be awkward as frick because if I was Tbird, I'd want to punch you right in the fricking face.

Bitch all you want about blacks being a majority in those sports, but you have no one to blame but your ancestors. Your hateful little southern great-great-great grandpappys practiced eugenics in order to get the strongest and fastest slaves on their fields. If you're bothered by all that blackness on the football field, blame your roots.

Gonna need a link to this, homeslice.

I'm not playing any card at all.

YOU are the one who brought up race itt first. I said I didn't respect the cause Lee fought for.

YOU are classically race-baiting.

I honestly do not see race IRL, in my everyday life.

Says the poster who just got done talking about "angry blacks"

quote:

So you believe the Constitution, which expressly grants rights to the states

States don't have the right to own slaves. States don't have the right to leave the Union. Get that through your apologist head.

Yup, pretty much the stereotype to the letter

Sickening because most savvy conservatives aren't like that these days, but there's always some out there being....themselves

We can split up into 5 different states if the notion strikes us, too.

Might start a campaign to do that for a limited time. Just because we can
