In 2000, my fraternity pledge trainer told our pledges to drive around the city of Auburn and collect any Al Gore campaign signs and bring them back to the house. We had a nice little bonfire. "Little" being the keyword!

So I’m old and old enough now to be glad I’m not young but sometimes I really wonder what I’d be like If say I was right now 20.

I graduated high school in 1990- was a tiny private school. Went to college, met lots of people that were outside of my little typical crew from high school. Hung out with gays pretty often, went to gay bars, saw drag shows- have always been a live and let live person. I’ve always considered myself to sort of a voyeur and liked to dip my toes in and see aspects of the world different than mine.

But I am so thankful I didn’t grow up in the she/her/hers (is that even right?) age. I roll my eyes at all of this current pc stuff and not because eww or yuck or I hate people different than me or think less of them or applaud people who are outright assholes to people different than them but it’s just the kid gloved way of dealing with every single thing now. It’s like people are both raunchier/trashier (or at least share it with the world now) and hyper sensitive at the same time. And the raunchy part bothers be far less than the hyper sensitivity.

So would I have blue hair, nose rings and be holding protest signs if I was young now? Holy shite I hope not.

Was there actual concern that Al Gore might win the state of Alabama?

No, but what does that have to do with what he did?

Well if there's no chance of impacting the result of the election, running around collecting signs seems like an incredible waste of time.
