Another problem that I think stinks is scholarship stacking. I know several people that in addition to full tuition, housing, and miscellaneous expenses, they receive fat checks from the University each semester because they have kick-arse resumes and win every scholarship they apply for so they're making significant money they're banking that another kid could have used for books or something. And I'm talking they're making more than just cost of living stuff from the school. For example, I know one person who has a full ride with housing and everything covered, and receives a $4000 check from the school each semester. Not all schools allow that but Bama does.

i had a friend who did the same thing. he came from a very very poor family, but graduated valedictorian, merit scholar, and emancipated himself from his parents as soon as he graduated HS.

kid got like a $6000 check from the school every semester and $1000 from the government every month. and honestly i was ok with it.

Law school? Med school?

I'm at about $90K, combined undergrad and law school. Luckily, I have a decent paying job.

Vet school. My pay is OK - nothing compared to my med school friends who went through the same amount of schooling and have similar loans (but make way more than I do).

Prob only 4k for undergrad. Had a full ride that I blew in my 20s and have only had to pay very little on my return. We'll see what happens when I start looking at grad programs.

I'm right around 15k left in my student loans. I came out of school w/ ~40k in May, 2010 and have just been trying to keep plugging away. It's a beating, but I can't wait to be done w/ them!
