My understanding is that magical race faeries sprinkle luck and good will to some white people during their lives.
Unless you take the comments at face value that white people have 'race advantage' which explains their success.
edit:
to clarify, people saying that white people have advantages for being white are either racist, or believe in magical faeries.

Then please explain to me what specific advantage white people have.
Unless this invisible force is beyond explanation; in which case we are talking about fancy words to hide our racist assumptions.

read my posts earlier this morning. Majority advantage, etc., etc.

I'm trying to understand this discussion and using phrases like majority advantage and others don't really explain anything to me.
I'm really concerned about how this country worships racism as a good thing under the euphemism "affirmative action".
So when there is a thread that could really get me to understand this concept of white privilege I jumped on it, too bad its really looking to be weasel words to justify racist assumptions.

I don't think he realizes that he's using a false microcosm -- or that these same privileges are applied in different circumstances.

Affirmative Action is a tough one, I don't really agree with it, although it was necessary at one point in time. I would have no problem doing away with it as long as the results of that decision are monitored to see what the effects are.

Its never been a better time to look forward. If society is always looking back to the past it will never get past the times of trouble.
At some point people have to move on.
At some point people have to move on.

BLACK GIRLS STILL CAN'T GET IN TO ALABAMA SORORITIES. Any benefit I'm sure the frat stars in the SEC will brag about Greek life, are completely excluding black people at some universities.
You know, growing up watching those old civi rights movies I always wondered what it was like to experience racial segregation on a large scale. After being here for three years I now know what it feels like. I don't want to play the victim card here but it does feel bad to be on the outside looking in, especially since Greek life is such a big deal here.

A black Alabama student is still not afforded the same experience and opportunity as a white one.

In some aspects, yes. Not saying that I'm facing adversity or anything, butt yes,

And what percentage of CEO's and executives were Greek in college?

I would expand that to all senior management, but I expect a high number. Greek organizations are great for networking. Networking is very important, and something black Alabama students don't get to experience that their white Greek counterparts do.

There are plenty of white people I know without the means or social graces to get into those greek organisations.
Is that racism too?

But were they automatically discounted because of the color of their skin?

If they aren't excluded simply because they are white obviously not. Black students with incredible resumes that would get a bid to every Greek organization if they they were white are left out. Because they are black.
That is racism.

Ah, didn't know you reviewed greek rushing practices.
I'll defer to your expertise.

Students have a choice on where they want to go to school just like everyone has a choice on how they want to live their lives. People who work hard and devote themselves to family and hard work have the ability to be successful. Everyone may not be a CEO or upper management but you don't need to make six figures to be successful.
