I thought I was pretty familiar with SNL history, but I gotta say I don't recall The Muppets ever being on that show.
So I looked it up, and I still don't recognize this at all.

Was probably wise to cut that part out of the show. Would have given the show a very different vibe.

There's one skit I've been looking for for a while and can't find it. I may not have the name of it exactly right, but it was a commercial for some kind of Hasidic Jew store.
And it wasn't terribly funny, I just thought about it a while back and tried to look it up and found nothing.

That one was Hub's Gyros, and I only mention it further because Sandler was on the cast back then and he obviously did some Jewish bits.
Does anybody there look familiar, like Robert Smigel in the back? He did a few of those as well, IIRC.

Could you have been thinking about this reference in a Mulaney sketch?

Costanza / Austin Powers / Duce Bigelo / Sandler / Farley / Norm

Wow, can definitely see the evolution from there to The Dark Crystal, which was pretty iconic.

This would have been in the late 80s, early 90s.
I think.

Can't find a video clip, but possibly Kaufman’s Big and Tall, and Short and Small Sephardic Jew Men’s Clothing Store?

Found it!

I also learned something today:

Sephardic law and customs are the law and customs of Judaism which are practiced by Sephardim or Sephardic Jews (lit. "Jews of Spain"); the descendants of the historic Jewish community of the Iberian Peninsula, what is now Spain and Portugal
By the way, unrelated but related, I love watching you mix it up theologically (and generally destroying folks) on twitter. You show up in my timeline a good bit.

If only Twitter was around 20 years ago when I had more of an appetite and energy for that kind of stuff. As I've matured, I realize you're not going to change anyone's mind and most are really just trying their best.
But man, there are some terrible theology takes on there and I can't help myself sometimes.

And as soon as I hit submit on that post, I was like, wait.....Twitter probably has been around for 20 years now.
