They are right. It is made there so you get it fresher. My boss actually went there a couple of years back.

There is no difference.
I don't like Guiness too much myself, but they do make Smithwicks and that shite is great.
ETA: Way back in the day the Brits used to call the Irish "Scotti" during the time that Scotland was ruled by the Picts. Then eventually some badass dude named Fergus created a kingdom that stretched from Scotland all the way down across the Northern Channel into what is today Britain. Then later somehow it all got divided up again. But the point is that the Scots and Irish are pretty much the same people.
