We rely too much on the robots as is. I don’t like it.

Great time. Talked to Tubby Smith, and several of the inductees. Food was good, overall nice event.

My most embarrassing moment was they had these bottles with tea in it in those flip top bottles and I tried to open one and flip it with my thumb, but it was on tight and I was afraid I would press too hard and spill it all over me and everyone around me, so I sat it back down and drank water all night.

I never feel comfortable in coat and tie either. Makes for a long event when I'm stuck wearing one.

Great write up! Surreal that I'm reading this thread while on a ferry to Mykonos. Stayed on Santorini for 3 days and checked out the history of that island.

One of the biggest volcanic eruptions occurred here in 1600BC which wiped out the Minoans, which many believe were the first Europeans.

Several ruins in Athens talk about that very battle you described.

Mediterranean history is amazing

It is fascinating stuff! You could spend your life there and still find a new site to visit. I hope you are enjoying the trip.

People whose only knowledge of Greek history comes from popular entertainment often don't understand how hosed the Greeks were

As someone who gets the extent of my historical knowledge from the movie 300 and the SEC OT, I'm fascinated to think about warfare involving different indigenous animals.

Assuming it was accurate, image being a Greek soldier and the Persians coming rolling in with elephants, which you have never seen nor knew existed. Just think of what that must have looked like in person.

Even if it wasn't an actual strategic advantage (like horses), just imagine the psychological shock that had to convey when your opponent believed you commanded huge, mythical-looking beasts.

History repeats with Hannibal and the Romans but imagine crossing the Alps with a sub Saharan animal.
