Helped deliver one that was breech; neither made it.
How automatic and how hands on is it?

Man thats tough. I had one come breech 2 weeks ago. I was expecting a dead calf but everything was OK.
I watch my cows that are calving pretty close I have cameras in my barns and pens where I can watch them day and night. Most of the time they dont have any trouble. Sometimes the cow will stand up with the calf hanging out and if the calf lands wrong and its head ends up under its body they can suffocate. Sometimes they have the birth sack over their face and suffocate.
This past week the temps were below 20 and the nights were around 1. Wednesday night I had 4 cows calve that night starting at midnight. I ended up with all 4 calves that night at different times in my house drying them off and trying to warm them up with hairdryers or they would have froze to death.
After I got them dry I gave them half of a baby calf bottle of milk and colostrum then tagged them and took them back down to their mommas in the barn.
It's a lot more work calving when the temps are below freezing.

I want an on-call job helping you do that
You call and wake me up and you send the helicopter to get me.
How much do I get paid? Do I get paid for the helicopter rides?
Can I drink on the job?

Good morning.
About what I'd expected.... except the freezing cold.
Helped this grizzled old mechanic, tractor whiz, castrate pigs once. This guy didn't give a rip about anything or so it seemed. Just a razor blade in one hand piglet in the other. You (mE) never heard so much squealing and pig cussing. Then it happen move one moved and it herniated.
And suddenly Mr Stone cracked, he called for a needle and thread, and he began by drenching purple medicine all over both hands and the pig. It was the permanent you wear. With precision and care that every 3rd word cussing redneck acted with more compassion and care than some people doctors. I was just a kid but learned something about judging a book by it's cover.

*looks outside, sees lousy weather* I do think so, unless someone darted me and removed me to a breeding facility up North.
Just up the road from that Indian Motorcycle shop.

*gromph, mutter, mutter, gromph*
Morning folks. I am obviously paying off karma at an accelerated rate because I woke up at 3 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Naturally today is a day where I have a ton of things I have to do.
Ah well, at least the weather should be nice... as it sets me up for yet another temperature plummet later this week.
