How did you do with the old cows?

They did OK they averaged $1.23/lbs. I thought that was good for the shape they were in they were having trouble holding their weight.

I was happy with it. I may sell my calves a little lighter this year with the market like it is ... 600 lbs. Also trying to stretch my hay out since I had to start feeding bales since late August because of the drought.
Tough year when your pastures are all bare and the only thing for them to eat is hay.

Sold our calves a bit light this fall and was fairly pleased-definitely needed to decrease the pressure on pastures

A friend of mine in California married into a "ranching" family out there. They had one guy they hired to keep an eye on everything that spent all his time in his provided house. They didn't care because they only operated their ranch because it made them "cattlemen." They made all their money off a bunch of rental property they owned.

If you are going to claim to be something... you should actually be doing that thing.

My pastures are ate down and are as short as golf course greens.
I'll survive it will just be a pain until spring comes and hopefully it rains early when we need it.

I always thought it would be cool to own a small ranch in another country so I could say my operation was international.
Now I think having one ranching operation is enough headache.
