It is wide spread historical knowledge that he was under house arrest in his old age for heliocentrism, the theory that the Earth revolves around the Sun. The truth is... a bit more complicated.
Yes, heliocentrism was a wee bit controversial. However, among the educated elite of the Catholic Church it was also pretty well accepted as truth. The problem was that in 1610 most of the population was so poorly educated that... well... they'd be mistaken for US citizens today. So the Church, which funded a great deal of Gal's research, was fine with his discoveries, they just didn't want him making a fuss about it.
There was only one issue with this. Galileo was vastly more talented at being a complete a-hole than a scientist. His writings pointed the finger directly at the Pope for any problems he was having and, well, Galileo was not shy about aligning with political interests opposed to the Catholic Church. In Italy. In 1610.
Almost everything Galileo gets credit for had already been observed by other astronomers so he's in the position of being a martyr for science despite being more the wrong guy in the right place to get attention.

How ya feeling?
Thanks for asking.
The two weeks prior to this week were terrible. I bet i didnt sleep 2 hours any night and not much more napping during the day. My poor wife had the worst Chrisrmas ever I'm sure.
I went back to work this week, so I relented and decided to take 1/2 pain pill before bed because when I was taking them, they made me drowsy, them and the lyrica. It has seemingly helped. I've slept 4-5 hours a night and overall I feel a lot better. Stronger even.
I only had PT once this week because of insurance, but I'm doing all my exercises and just got home from going on almost a mile walk with the wife and dogs. Sitting with ice now.
My ankle seems to constantly stay a bit swollen, but I do feel like I'm gaining a bit each day right now. Today is day 34.
Gonna try no pain pill tonight with tomorrow being Saturday and see if I'm still able to sleep. Also can sleep some in the spare bedroom instead of just the recliner.

So, I think I drugged myself last night. Wife bought me some CBD sleep gummies to try to help with sleep.
I've been taking them now for 3 days with 1/2 pain pill. Last night I decided to stop the pain pill, but take the gummy and zquil both.
I slept pretty good again, woke up about 6:30am and drank 2 cups of coffee, went to a coffee shop for a 3rd and was still lethargic and drowsy all morning. Finally took a nap at 2pm and honestly didn't start feeling normal till about 5pm.
Tonight will be gummy and no zquil and see how it goes.
