The policeman dispersed the crowd and began to interrogate the suspect.
The policeman : Tell me what happened.
The suspect : Sir I was driving home within the speed limit when my brakes failed. I had no choice but to either crash the car into a group of 10 people or to swerve into the direction of a single person. Am I a monster for deciding to swerve into the single person?
Policeman : No, that sounds like a difficult yet reasonable decision to make. But tell me how did you end up killing 11 people?
Suspect : Well that a-hole ran towards the other 10.

The Turkish Navy had been kingpins of the Med for some time, a major reason why the Eastern Roman Empire had collapsed and how the Ottoman were able to invade (unsuccessfully) Italy on several occasions. This effectively ended that.
They were still, by far, the dominant land power in Europe and would be until the famous charge of the Polish Winged Hussars put paid to that and started the long decline of the Turks.

A historian friend and I discussed this the day it happened. We both immediately agreed the Israelis were going to lose their shite and reduce Gaza to rubble. Which, they've preceded to do.

314 Battle at Cibalae: Roman emperor in the west Constantine the Great beats emperor in the east Licinius
For brief moment the Roman Empire is properly restored. Constantine promptly moves the capital to Byzantium, which he renames Constantinople, and formerly splits the Roman Empire into Western and Eastern halves. Constantine picks the wealthier East to rule.
quote:
1973 In the Yom Kippur War an Israeli armored brigade makes an unsuccessful attack on Egyptian positions on the Israeli side of the Suez Canal.
For the first, and so far only, time an Arabic army meets the Israelis in open battle and defeats them. The Israelis abandon their head long armored assaults in favor of combined arms to sweep away Egyptian anti tank forces. and turn the tide shortly there after, even landing a small force across the Suez.
Despite the victory the Yom Kippur War was a serious blow to Israel. Egypt had demonstrated that it had the ability to face the Israelis in open battle with success. The next war, and the Israelis knew there would be a sequel soon, might go even worse. Hence the Camp David Peace Accords.
Shockingly, while Egypt blames everything that goes wrong on Israel (literally, including the birth rate slowing down) the Egyptians have turned out to be serious about maintaining the peace. Up to warning the Israelis about the October 7th attacks a full week in advance. That advice was ignored and we know how that has worked out.

Thanks! With the History Channel being... well... history... it is hard to find good historical shows. Youtube has them but you have to separate the wheat from the chaff.
