1918 Brazil declares war on Austria.
Brazil fought in both World Wars. The first was more of a "we're just showing the US we support them" declaration while they actually had some skin in the game in the second one. The Brazilians fought hard, and very well, in Italy on some godawful terrain.

The pair are vaguely happily married. Must save a bit of cash to do birthdays on the same day.

Same here. It's better, but seeing the ground pull away from concrete is very strange.

Your odd military police story of the day. The end of World War II meant that a large chunk of Germany was now in allied hands, technically France, the US, and the UK. In truth the French had a handful of divisions and some garrison troops recruited at the last minute, their contribution to holding onto Germany mostly consisted of shooting every German soldier they could get their hands on.
Which left the US and the UK (both stretched painfully thin) to hold onto a country where the government had disappeared, millions of former German soldiers were slowly being demobilized, and hundreds of thousands of bored Allied soldiers were looting at will. The ad hoc solution was to not demobilize the Wehrmacht military police and give them police powers. So. Yes, you could be arrested by someone you were fighting just a month or two ago.
And it worked. The German MPs held things together while the Allies demobilized their own forces as quickly as possible.

I've seen people on the OT mention that they water around their foundations during a drought to discourage settling/cracking.
