A rifle pretty much either is automatic or it isn't automatic. Most auto's have a selector switch to turn it into a semi-auto....but it's still considered an automatic rifle.
My guess is this is just another reporter that doesn't know what the frick they're talking about when it comes to guns. I've had to tell numerous reporters that I work(ed) with that the "AR" in AR-15 does NOT stand for assault rifle.
They legitimately had no clue what it stood for. And I'm ok with someone having a general lack of knowledge about the specifics of something...just...for the love of god...don't just assume something because it sounds like it might be right.

The liberal media loves to speak on guns when most of them couldn't even tell you how to properly shoot one. They also probably couldn't tell you that an AR is a semiautomatic.
