Could be, but I'm fairly confident that's one thing I am doing correctly.
After some thought, I think it's the baggage. Oh well, not gonna be a dead beat dad.

It's probably not the baggage. If she senses she's got no competition she'll move on. Like if you're always available and don't have plans with other people.
This is just generalization but could be the source of your problem. Gotta keep most women on their toes these days.

Not sure why you would want to be in a committed relationship at this point after being married so long. Enjoy being single for a while before dating. Go fishing, hunting, watch as much football as you can.

This is why I love Finland. Woman don't play games over here. They come straight out and tell you whether or not they are looking for a relationship or just fricky treats.

I'm not looking for a committed relationship really, just curious if the behavior I'm encountering is typical.

It is. Women don't want to be labeled a whore or slut, so to avoid that they pretend they're looking for a committed relationship. Many are, but they also have sexual desire. But they'll suppress it for that first date, only to give in to that desire on the 2nd date. If they move on after that encounter, they just weren't interested in you long term and you were just a notch on their belt so to speak.
It's messed up our society puts that burden on women.
Buddy of mine is divorced and he says divorced women around his age(42) are a lot less liberated and not worried about the slut/whore label. He usually has a couple of different women he's messing around with at any given time. He says the joint custody ones are the best because the weekend they don't have the kids, they go crazy and get as much in as they can.
