ETA: btw, I saw your comment on the other thread the other day. Kudos on the homeschoolage
Thanks, I like it so far, I don't have any friends really though.

Oh well.

Hate the concept. Never been to the website. Don't necessarily think it's any more racist than websites promoting meeting asian or russian girls or any more bigoted than sites like ChristianMingle.com or sites of that ilk.
I agree. I am a heavy Christian but don't like ChristianMingle. Its kinda of stupid.
The stupidest is FarmerOnly.com

Oh, didn't realize you were still IN homeschool

Idk what the area's like where you are, but try to get involved with a homeschool group of some sort. Lots of homeschoolers "co-op" classes and do activities/take field trips together. Did that a lot growing up, plus I had a lot of siblings

I agree. Devout Christian but would never use a website like that. Not that I think it's beneath me, it just seems stupid

Hadn't even heard of that one before

I've done that before, really did not like it. Don't know why it just did not appeal to me. I joined Boy Scouts when I was 6 and I am still in it so that helped. My troop has about 50 kids in it.

They have a bunch of stupid commercials on TV.

Like I said, depends on the area. I was a military brat, so I had different experiences in different environments. San Antonio was the most positive. Enid, Oklahoma was the worst. Found a nice niche when my family lived in Biloxi, Mississippi, though.
Boy Scouts is excellent. Never did that. Did Awanas when I was younger and 4-H was my shite when I got to high school.
Btw, there's at least a couple other homeschool grads on the Rant that I know of. Drewbie (Arkansas poster) and wadewilson (LSU). Good people

My Co-Op groups were always a bunch of rich, spoiled kids.

I tried 4-H. BSA has helped me so much, socially and mentally. I earned a $6,000 scholarship for earning Eagle the other day.

Awesome, I thought we were the only one.

We could be brothers in my opinion.

Then you're WAY better off alone, needless to say

Good stuff! I was in 4-H primarily for the scholarships anyway

Same reason. I was always very good at public speaking. I plan on majoring in Communications or journalism in college.

A man after my own heart

I majored in business, but I love public speaking. Comes very naturally to me (which helps now that I'm in the military). You'll go far with that, bro

Thanks. I plan on writing for my college paper (Ole Miss or Missouri) and then try and intern at a paper such as The Washington Post or New York Times. My dream is to work for ESPN.

Go for it, bro!

If you end up going to Mizzou, hit me up or some of the other Mizzou posters (a couple of the best ones are currently banned under dubious reasons, but I digress). I'll be living about an hour and a half west of CoMo

Posted on 4/5/13 at 4:38 pm to TbirdSpur2010
I sure will.
Mizzou competely depends on my ACT score and scholarships. Right now my ACT is at 28 but I need it at 32.
Missouri is my first choice even though I am an Ole Miss fan. My career and education is way more importent than sports.

Keep diggin' for that higher score, bro. Out of curiosity, what are Mizzou's admission standards for homeschoolers? Texas A&M included homeschoolers under their "top 20% of the class" criteria, and as such, I only needed to make a 1300 or higher on the SAT to make it in (they weren't including the writing portion of the test for admission at the time--2005-06). Eeked out a 1370 SAT (2070 overall), but bombed the ACT with only a 24 score

That's the right perspective to have. As important as education was to me, though, I'd be lying if I said sports didn't play a part in where I went to school. My mom's a Michigan Wolverine and my dad's a Texas Aggie, so I grew up watching those schools all the time and wanted to be a part of one of those spirited fanbases. Michigan was too cold, and TAMU had a better ROTC program, so that was it for me.
Of course, karma showed me up by allowing me to experience one of our worst football periods in school history in the Fran Era

I don't know about homeschoolers but public schooled kids its 28 I think. Most scholarships are in the 32 ACT range.
I am on pace to graduate a year early and spend my one year off working on that ACT score, and saving up for a car.
The sports perspective is weird. I want to be a sports journalist but I am smart enough to understand that sports and parties can take a back seat.

Good luck with that, I mean it. Had two jalopies that I loved but were literal death traps until I got my Suburban just last year. Not a way to live.

Never went to a single college party, believe it or not. Was always busy with ROTC stuff or playing intramurals at the Rec. Didn't touch a drop of alcohol till I came on active duty, actually

But football games were my oasis. Probably because I was thrilled to be a part of the pageantry I'd grown up watching. :nb4brainwashed:

Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. Keep it up

Thanks. My parents want to help me get a Volkeswagen Jetta. Safe car that gets 42 MPH.
I'm not a party person. I would rather study. Never been to a party or done anything illegal or stupid. Part of this is my Dad. He was never in the military but he acts like it. Wakes me up a 5AM every day to workout and study. He would kill me if I got caught partying.

Damn, you sound more and more like me

Mom used to wake me and my sibs up at 5:30 every morning to workout, cook breakfast, and start studies. Had to work my arse off in high school because I started a semester late due to a long, drawn out military move overseas, so the only summer break I got was right before I went to A&M. Made pulling all nighters and shite studying seem like a piece of cake when I got there, though. You'll be well-prepared to succeed at whatever school you get into if you keep that up

Yeah I got blessed with great parents. They have really helped and guided me. They always supported my decisions. My parents made me go to church when I was going through a rough patch in life and it saved my life.
