Why doesn't Printz transfer to a smaller school to get college QB experience?

I feel bad for that kid. UCLA fricked him over and now he stands on the sideline waiting for a chance to play when one will never come.

Kinda pisses me off.

"I feel bad for that kid"

me too, otoh the way Mauk tends to get hit a lot, he still could have played this year, it was close. You have to wonder if the "fear of" QB controversy keeps Pinkel awake at night.

Whether he transfers now or later, he'll have to sit out next year if he goes to another D1 team. I suspect he'll go through spring and see if he wins the position (which he won't) and if he doesn't I would not be surprised to see him transfer at all.

He is a snap away from playing. Ohio State is going to the National Championship game with their 3rd string QB.

Yepp. Injuries can always happen. For whatever reason, I just don't think that he will stick around on the off chance Mauk gets injured. I would like for him to. Just don't think he's of the same mind set as a Berk or what not. Hope I'm wrong.

Why doesn't every non starter transfer then?

I could be and hope I'm dead wrong on Printz. It all just depends on the player obviously. My recollection was that he decommitted from UCLA after UCLA started recruiting other QB's when he was told they wouldn't and he was their man. Maybe he just didn't like being lied to and I respect that. My concern is that he believes the position should simply be his, regardless of who is there. Hopefully/Maybe I'm wrong, but that is why I'm concerned he'll leave.

I had an argument with someone on this board during the preseason who said it was in Printz' best interest to stay at Mizzou because even though he won't ever be the starter, the starter could get injured. That guy was stupid.

I guess it all depends on what is important to him. If playing is, then he'll transfer.

If Printz wants to play pro ball, he needs to start somewhere. That somewhere won't be Mizzou.

I did not like the fact that Pinkel would not even play him in situations you would normaly play your backup just to prove his loyalty to Mauk.

that's the way it seemed to me too, and after a year of the "we always play our backup a series per game, it's what we do" nonsense.. if it makes so much sense one year, why not the next year too? When it comes to QB's, Pinkel looks very much like someone who is trying to figure it out as he goes. I think the success with Brad and Chase made him think he's better at it than he actually is.

That's the one thing that I didn't get about this last year. I guess GP felt we didn't have a choice in order to win games, but man, we were screwed if MM went down because no one else was being given ANY snaps. He's always been so good about it in years past. Made me think he was afraid EP would come in and do well. The other guess I had was that if MM went down, he would have gone with Berk because he at least had some experience playing.

And it wasn't just the QB spot. He's always seemed to be better at getting other positions some experience in order to prepare them for future years. Not so much this year, particularly at WR. Brown really should have reshirted unless the practices meant that much. We now have no WR's that have enough experience to say they are our go to guys next year.

True.

Tyler Gabbert was never going to start at Mizzou, but he felt he could be a starter. He transferred.

I heard so much during the preseason about how EP looked amazing in the Spring. Fans were saying he should start. And so on and so forth. It's pretty easy to be a fan of the backup qb. You only hear about his good deeds and never see him throw an interception. Maybe GP knows what he's doing.

I wanted to see EP get some PT but I don't think Mauk played all the minutes because of loyalty. I think GP wanted Maty to improve.

I don't know if I'd call it out of loyalty as much as fear of creating a controversy. I mean, what would happen if Printz came in and lit it up for 2 or 3 series each game? People would be clamoring from him even if MM actually was the better option.

If he doesn't realize the Pinkel model by now, he is screwed.

Start QB for 3/4 years, Recruit QB for Starting QB's Junior year and redshirt. Franklin/Maty series splits for Starters senior year. Repeat.

Obviously, you have to have other QB's on the roster. Berk has been a trooper, I hope he gets the backup job in the spring when printz transfers. I look for Lock to redshirt.

Feel bad for the kids 3 years in between, but hey, it works.

That's a fair point Reedus23 but not all of our offensive problems are solely because of Maty (yes he makes his fair share of bonehead plays).

If everyone remembers Maty didn't get any minutes until he proved himself on the field (after JF got hurt). GP has RARELY given back-ups much PT at the QB position.
