Stand up at the snap, slap around with the OL a bit and not gain any ground upfield.

What a mess

Read and react is more like stand straight up and watch as the offense goes by you.

I'm not real sure what they are supposed to be doing, but I'm sure it's not that.

Just unleash these motherfrickers already! Who cares if we get gapped a few times. This stand up at the snap shite is getting us murdered.

Again, and again, and again.

Read and React is basically what every team uses in HS. It's not a bad scheme at all! But it needs to be carefully coached. I coach DL in a R&R scheme, so I know it's ups and downs. The best solution is to give your guy 2 reads and let him rip. Blocked or unblocked. If blocked, penetrate, find ball and mess someone up. If unblocked, squat because something's up.

I can tell our DL has like 17 reads and therefore we get high pad level, slower guys off the ball, guys get stuck on blocks, and we have to depend on our safeties to prevent big gains. But hey the coaches get to show off how much they know so that's always good
